Bitdeer Locks In $800 Million as AI Infrastructure Demand Surges

Bitdeer has fully contracted the 9.5-megawatt capacity of its A102 artificial-intelligence data center in Malaysia under five-year agreements representing more than $800 million in expected revenue, securing customers before the facility is even energized. The company had contracted roughly half of A102 for approximately $400 million on August 19, then committed the remaining capacity within just 12 days. The liquid-cooled facility, designed for rack-scale NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 deployments, is scheduled to begin service in the first quarter of 2027. Bitdeer’s ability to secure long-term customers and substantial prepayments before committing the full capital required for construction underscores both the extraordinary demand for AI computing infrastructure and the advantages enjoyed by companies already experienced in securing large quantities of electricity and operating power-intensive computing facilities.

      Key Takeaways

      • Bitdeer’s 9.5-megawatt A102 facility is fully committed under five-year agreements representing more than $800 million in expected revenue, with the final half of its capacity contracted only 12 days after the initial agreement.
      • Customer prepayments are expected to cover more than half of associated capital expenditures, giving Bitdeer a potentially disciplined way to expand AI infrastructure against contracted demand rather than relying primarily on speculative construction.
      • Bitdeer is targeting 350 megawatts of AI cloud capacity by the first quarter of 2028, with an active pipeline exceeding $2 billion and a 21.7-megawatt Johor Bahru facility emerging as its next major Malaysian project.

      In-Depth

Bitdeer’s rapid sellout of its A102 data center in Malaysia offers evidence that demand for high-end AI computing infrastructure remains intense. The 9.5-megawatt facility is now fully committed under five-year offtake agreements representing more than $800 million in expected revenue, even though the site is not scheduled to begin service until the first quarter of 2027. Roughly half the capacity had been contracted on August 19 for approximately $400 million; the balance was committed within 12 days.

The economics are notable. Bitdeer says it generally structures AI cloud contracts so customer prepayments cover more than half of associated capital expenditures. That model can reduce the amount of capital placed at risk before demand is secured, while allowing expansion to follow signed commitments rather than speculative forecasts. A102 is designed around liquid cooling and rack-scale NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 systems, reflecting the extraordinary power and thermal requirements of modern AI computing.

The development also illustrates how infrastructure expertise accumulated in cryptocurrency mining is being redirected toward AI. Companies accustomed to securing large power allocations, building substations, managing energy-intensive hardware and operating globally have capabilities increasingly valuable in the data-center race.

Bitdeer is targeting 350 megawatts of AI cloud capacity by the first quarter of 2028 and says its active pipeline exceeds $2 billion. Its next Malaysian focus is a 21.7-megawatt Johor Bahru facility. The larger lesson is straightforward: AI competition increasingly depends not merely on better models, but on securing electricity, advanced chips, cooling systems and deployable computing capacity before rivals do.
