ChatGPT conversations shared publicly can be indexed by Google, Bing and other search engines. ChatGPT doesn’t make chats public by default, but if users click the ‘share’ button and then ‘create link,’ they can make the conversation discoverable. Search engines have indexed these links, revealing everyday queries like home renovations, resume rewrites and quirky questions. OpenAI said the public-sharing feature was part of a short-lived experiment and has now been removed because it created too many opportunities for accidental oversharing. A spokesperson added that chats remain private unless shared, while Google emphasized that publishers control whether pages are indexed. To learn more about this issue, read more on TechCrunch.
