Irish Engineering Giant Picks Dallas for North American Headquarters and 1,000-Job Expansion

Ireland-based H&MV Engineering is establishing its North American headquarters in Dallas and plans to create 1,000 U.S. jobs over the next five years as it expands to meet soaring demand for high-voltage electrical infrastructure. The company designs, builds and energizes substations and grid connections serving data centers, utilities, renewable-energy projects and battery-storage facilities. Its expansion reflects the increasingly important physical infrastructure behind the artificial-intelligence boom: massive computing facilities cannot operate without dependable generation, transmission and high-voltage connections. H&MV already has projects underway across the United States, with Texas and Louisiana its busiest markets, and its Dallas headquarters will serve as a base for engineering and project delivery nationwide. The company has grown from roughly $70 million in annual revenue in 2020 to more than $1.1 billion today and is targeting approximately $3.5 billion within five years.

      Key Takeaways

      • H&MV Engineering plans to add 1,000 U.S. jobs over five years, spanning engineering, construction and project-delivery positions, while using Dallas as the headquarters for its North American expansion.
      • Artificial intelligence is a major catalyst, but H&MV says demand extends beyond data centers to electric-grid modernization, renewable generation, utilities and battery storage—all sectors requiring substantial new high-voltage infrastructure.
      • The Dallas move builds on H&MV’s acquisition of Texas-based Cooke Power Services and comes as the company has grown to more than $1.1 billion in annual revenue, more than 1,900 employees and over 24 gigawatts of projects in design and construction worldwide.

      In-Depth

Dallas’ emergence as a technology and infrastructure hub is getting another boost as Ireland-based H&MV Engineering establishes its North American headquarters in the city and commits to creating 1,000 U.S. jobs over five years. The company specializes in the high-voltage substations and grid connections increasingly necessary to support artificial intelligence, hyperscale data centers, utilities, renewable generation and battery storage.

The expansion highlights a basic reality sometimes obscured by enthusiasm surrounding AI: digital growth ultimately depends on physical infrastructure. Data centers require enormous amounts of dependable electricity, and adding generation alone is insufficient if transmission, substations and grid connections cannot keep pace. H&MV is positioning itself directly in that bottleneck, with projects ranging from 138kV to 345kV and Texas and Louisiana already representing its most active American markets.

The company enters this expansion from a position of substantial growth. Its revenue has risen from roughly $70 million in 2020 to more than $1.1 billion, while its global portfolio includes more than 24 gigawatts of projects in design and construction. H&MV also acquired Texas-based Cooke Power Services earlier this year, giving it additional local construction capabilities, licenses and utility relationships.

For Dallas and Texas, the announcement demonstrates how the AI boom can create employment well beyond software development. Engineering, construction and project-delivery jobs are increasingly tied to the enormous physical buildout required by computing. Dallas offers H&MV proximity to customers, transportation connections and skilled labor, while Texas provides one of America’s most active markets for data centers, energy development and grid investment.
