Eleven More Women Come Forward After Silicon Valley Sexual-Assault List Exposed

Eleven additional women have come forward with allegations of sexual assault and abuse in the technology world following revelations that a private Silicon Valley spreadsheet contains the names of more than 100 alleged sexual predators, including prominent investors, businessmen and people associated with major technology and artificial-intelligence companies. The women reportedly want their experiences added to the informal warning network, which developed partly because alleged victims fear professional retaliation for reporting powerful industry figures. One woman claims an alleged abuser hacked her phone and exploited confidential information against her, while another says she lost her job after reporting an alleged assault by a colleague. The disclosures have renewed scrutiny of Silicon Valley’s unusual intersection of professional networking, investment, communal “hacker houses” and private social life. Advocates argue that companies have failed to provide effective mechanisms for identifying repeat offenders, but private accusation lists present their own serious due-process problems because allegations may be unverified and reputations can be destroyed without investigation, evidence or an opportunity for the accused to respond.

      Key Takeaways

      • Eleven additional women reportedly came forward after disclosure of a private Silicon Valley spreadsheet containing more than 100 names connected to allegations ranging from sexual misconduct to drugging, sexual assault and rape.
      • Some alleged victims describe serious professional or personal retaliation after reporting misconduct, reinforcing concerns that wealth, investment relationships and concentrated professional power can discourage people from using conventional reporting channels.
      • Private “whisper networks” can provide warnings when institutions fail, but anonymous or unverified accusations also create substantial due-process and defamation concerns, making credible investigations and evidence-based accountability essential.

      In-Depth

Silicon Valley’s latest sexual-misconduct controversy presents two problems that should not be confused. Serious allegations deserve serious investigation, particularly when women say professional power, money and fear of retaliation prevent them from reporting alleged abuse. But accusations circulating on private spreadsheets cannot themselves substitute for evidence or due process.

Eleven more women reportedly came forward after disclosure of a private list containing more than 100 alleged offenders. Their accounts include claims of sexual assault, career retaliation, hacking and surveillance. The allegations arrive amid broader scrutiny of Silicon Valley’s “hacker house” culture, where residential life, parties, entrepreneurship, investment and professional networking can overlap in ways that blur ordinary workplace boundaries.

The existence of an underground warning system is itself revealing. When people believe police, employers or professional institutions cannot protect them, they create alternative mechanisms. Yet such systems carry obvious dangers. An accusation can be devastating even when never independently established, and anonymous lists can provide little opportunity for an accused person to challenge inaccurate or malicious claims.

The responsible answer is neither institutional indifference nor guilt by spreadsheet. Companies should establish reporting procedures capable of investigating allegations independently, protecting complainants against retaliation and imposing meaningful consequences when misconduct is substantiated. Law enforcement should investigate credible allegations of criminal conduct without regard to an accused person’s wealth or industry influence.

Silicon Valley prides itself on solving difficult problems. Protecting people from abuse while preserving due process should not be beyond its capabilities. If private warning networks are flourishing because conventional institutions are failing, those institutional failures deserve scrutiny just as much as the disturbing allegations themselves.
