      Chinese fintech giant Ant Group is calling out U.S. tech leaders—such as Nvidia, Google, and OpenAI—for allegedly using apparently open-source tools as a smokescreen to trap developers in closed-source AI ecosystems. According to Ant Group’s global open-source AI landscape report unveiled at the Inclusion Conference on the Bund in Shanghai, companies are releasing frameworks and development toolchains (e.g. Nvidia’s Dynamo, or agent frameworks from OpenAI/Google) that are technically open but designed to work best—or only—with their proprietary models or hardware. The report contrasts that with practices in China: firms like Alibaba Cloud and ByteDance are said to open-source whole models (actual weights/designs) that developers can freely download and build on. Ant Group also points to market share data showing dominance by a few U.S. players—Microsoft holds roughly 39% of foundation-model/model-management platforms, and Nvidia commands some 92% of the data-center GPU market.

      Furthermore, the report cites market share numbers to show that dominance remains heavily skewed. Microsoft is said to hold about 39% of the foundation models and model management platform space, while Nvidia controls approximately 92% of data-center GPU market share. These figures underline the asymmetries in infrastructure: even with open toolchains, power relationships embedded in hardware, speed, optimization, and ecosystem partnerships favor incumbents.
