Dallas-Fort Worth Surges Past Los Angeles as a Major Technology Jobs Center

Dallas-Fort Worth has climbed into the top five North American metropolitan areas for technology employment, surpassing greater Los Angeles as North Texas continues its emergence as a major center for technology, artificial intelligence, corporate investment, and skilled employment. The region added more than 37,000 technology positions between 2022 and 2025, an increase of roughly 19%, while related data show DFW becoming one of the nation’s strongest markets for current tech hiring and future job growth. The expansion reflects more than the arrival of traditional technology companies: financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing, defense, health care, transportation, and other industries are increasing their reliance on software, data, cybersecurity, engineering, and AI talent. The result is a technology economy increasingly dispersed beyond California and other longtime coastal centers, with Texas benefiting from population growth, corporate migration, infrastructure investment, and a comparatively business-friendly economic environment.

      Key Takeaways

      • Dallas-Fort Worth surpassed greater Los Angeles to become one of North America’s five largest technology workforce markets, after adding more than 37,000 technology positions from 2022 through 2025.
      • North Texas is also strengthening its position in artificial intelligence, with 29,840 AI-related workers as of June 2026 and substantial demand for technology and AI skills across industries.
      • DFW’s technology growth demonstrates the continuing geographic decentralization of America’s technology economy, as employment and investment increasingly expand into large, diversified, business-oriented metropolitan areas outside traditional coastal technology centers.

      In-Depth

Dallas-Fort Worth’s rise into the top five North American technology labor markets is another indication that economic gravity is shifting away from traditional coastal centers. The region moved ahead of greater Los Angeles in technology workforce size, while adding more than 37,000 positions between 2022 and 2025, roughly 19 percent growth. That expansion gives North Texas a deeper pool of skilled workers and strengthens its appeal to companies considering investment or relocation.

The trend extends beyond headcount. Recent labor-market data show Dallas-Fort Worth among the country’s strongest markets for technology hiring, with notable demand for artificial-intelligence skills. The metro had 29,840 AI-related workers as of June 2026, placing it among North America’s largest AI employment centers. Separate projections anticipate substantial additional technology-job growth during 2026.

The development underscores the advantages of regions combining a large labor force, diversified industries, business investment, and favorable operating conditions. Technology employment in North Texas is not confined to software companies. Financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing, defense, transportation, health care, and other industries increasingly require developers, cybersecurity specialists, data professionals, engineers, and AI-capable workers.

That diversification could prove important as artificial intelligence reshapes employment. Some routine positions will face pressure, but companies simultaneously need workers capable of deploying and managing sophisticated systems. Dallas-Fort Worth appears positioned to capture that transition. Its challenge will be maintaining a skilled workforce, infrastructure, housing supply, and business climate to sustain momentum without allowing rapid growth to undermine the advantages that helped create it in the first place originally.
